At Seishin Pens, we pride ourselves on creating unique writing instruments that blend natural beauty with contemporary design. Our latest creation, a truly original fountain pen, exemplifies this fusion perfectly. Crafted from exquisite Amboyna Burl, this pen showcases a symphony of rich, swirling patterns in hues that range from deep mahogany to sunlit amber. Each section of wood tells its own story through the intricate grain, inviting users to explore its natural allure.
A Modern Contrast
Our pen is distinctively separated from the burl by elegant white and black trim rings, adding a vibrant contrast to its organic form. The shimmering metallic acrylic resin enhances this effect, reflecting light in a dazzling display of colors that accentuates the pen's warmth.
At the heart of the fountain pen lies the Jowo #6 gold-plated nib, a crowning feature that ensures a smooth and luxurious writing experience. The golden sheen of the nib complements the overall elegance of the design, delivering an air of regal sophistication that feels at home in the hand of any writer.

Innovating Tradition
This pen represents a new chapter in our craftsmanship, months in the making. It incorporates a unique system of inserts for the cap and body, allowing us to craft with wood while addressing a significant concern: the risk of ink leakage. Unlike many custom pen makers who use non-porous materials like resin or ebonite, we embraced the challenge of working with natural materials.
To mitigate the threat of ink staining or damaging the wood, the base of the pen is constructed from Delrin, also known as acetyl copolymer. This versatile material exudes strength and resilience, making it an ideal choice for the internal structure of the pen.
Precision in Crafting
Creating the internal components necessitated meticulous drilling and tapping of the Delrin rod. The pen's two main components: the cap and body, required precise inserts to protect against leaks. The Delrin was drilled to exacting dimensions and turned down just enough to allow the wooden sleeves to slide over it seamlessly.
For this particular pen, the inner diameter of the Delrin was drilled to 12.2 millimeters, while the outer diameter was turned to 13.5 millimeters, resulting in a delicate .65 mm wall thickness. This careful engineering ensures both functionality and aesthetics, setting the stage for the artistry that follows.
Pairing Materials
Once the technical work was complete, it was time to blend artistry with craftsmanship. The stunning warmth of Amboyna Burl, with its reds, oranges, and caramel hues, is a delight to work with. For this project, I paired it with an exceptional resin blank called Molten Metal, chosen for its aesthetic harmony.
After much contemplation, I opted for the timeless black and white trim rings, believing they would complement the design more effectively than a copper and white combination.

A Milestone for Seishin Pens
This fountain pen marks a significant achievement for Seishin Pens, expanding our creative horizons. With this new style, I can now explore a broader range of designs and fulfill customer requests with greater flexibility. Whether it's a specific color scheme or a unique design element, the possibilities have become virtually limitless.
